It All Began With This Rolex Advertorial
[Published 3 Days After Mount Everest Was Conquered]
One of the things we have been exploring for a long time on Jake's Rolex World is the genesis of the Rolex Explorer. To the best of my knowledge, this is the very first Rolex advertorial to celebrate the fact that Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were wearing Rolex Oyster Perpetual watches when they summited Everest. It was published just 3 days after Tenzing Norgay & Sir Edmund Hillary conquered Everest!!!
Soon after this amazing historical achievement, Rolex introduced the Rolex Explorer model that was based on this model of Oyster Perpetual. Of course they changed the dial to black, although Rolex also offered early Rolex Explorer models with white dials as well.
